Penélope
2007, 38 x 34 in, cotton
This is a piece with another three artists made as a challenge , where each of us chose a poem/song. Once the person had started the piece, it was passed onto the next person who added her own choices (always based on the initial poem/song), and so on, until it came back to the first artist, who then had to finish the piece, adding more to it, re-working it, etc. until it became her own piece. I chose a song called Penélope, written by Joan Manuel Serrat.

This quilt came from a couple of playing days with gelatine printing. The background was created by breakdown printing, and then an image that came from a gelatine monoprint was thermofaxed over it.
Triangular syncopations

I trained as a chemist and used to teach mathematics. Although I no longer do this, my love for maths has never waned and I love to work with geometric shapes in my quilts.
